It’s The Small Things

See this?! This morning this was a $3 dress at the op shop, and now it’s a bag for Miss Nine.

Why am I so excited about this?

(1) Because I’ve never sewn a thing in my life. I didn’t grow up with a heritage of women to teach me things like how to sew. But that doesn’t mean it’s ever too late to try new things and learn new skills.

(2) Because instead of being a controlling perfectionist like I once would’ve been, I guided and helped Miss Nine, but allowed her to do most of it herself. No, it’s not straight and it’s not perfect. But her sense of pride and accomplishment is worth far more than straight lines ever will be.

(3) Because this totally embraces my heart towards less consumerism and a simpler life. $3 spent, and not only does my daughter have a bag she loves, but we have spent the afternoon learning, sharing and growing together.

Sometimes the small things mean everything x

  1. Not only that, Kathy, you are giving Miss Nine your time, your calmness and problem solving together. You are teaching her about relationships and resiliance as well as sustainability. Thnaks for sharing. Jane 🙂

  2. My parents didn’t know the first thing about sustainability but I am passionate about it although not so much sewing! Only because I doubt my skills I am very impressed with yours well done. That is a lovely looking bag.

    1. Likewise here, this is a whole new journey for me but I’m loving the learning and the challenges along the way! Sewing being one of them haha!
